Plain Reading is built to collect as little as possible. Reading about screening is private business, and the site has no reason to know who is reading.

No trackers

The site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, loads no advertising or social media widgets and has no accounts, stored forms or newsletter. The pages do not try to identify visitors or follow them from page to page. A phone reader who taps a numbered dot to open a source note changes only what that one page shows; nothing is recorded.

Fonts and hosting

Two things involve outside companies. The typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, which means a visitor's browser asks Google's servers for font files, and Google receives the technical information any web request carries, such as an IP address. The site is also served from a content delivery network, which, like any web host, keeps routine technical logs of requests. This site does not see or use those logs. Readers who want to avoid the font request can block it in their browser, and the pages fall back to standard fonts.

Source links lead to the websites of the agencies, societies and journals cited. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and this publication has no control over them.

Email

The contact form simply opens a visitor's own email program with a prepared message. Nothing is submitted to this website. A message sent to the editors is read, used for corrections and kept only as long as needed for that purpose.

Terms of use

The pages are general information for education. They are not medical advice, do not create any relationship between a reader and the editors, and are not a substitute for the judgment of a doctor or screening service who knows the reader. Guidance changes, so readers should check the date shown beside each source. The editors try to be accurate but cannot guarantee that every page is current at the moment it is read.

Changes

If these practices change, this page will say so and show an updated date. This page was last updated on 11 October 2026.
